| Lots of exciting happenings and opportunities: I'll list them in chronological order: Sunday, September 20 -- "Arts in Action Live" Family Festival at the Alys Stephens Center - 1 to 3 pm -- There is no charge for this event. Saturday, October 17 -- Both orchestras will perform at the College Hills Fall Festival on the grounds of the McCoy Center (where our office is - 700 8th Ave W). The festival is from 9-12 with lots of fun family activiites. We have not set our performance time yet. The College Hills Neighborhood Association gave us a grant this year--let's show them our appreciation! Musicians will wear orchestra t-shirts and casual pants. We need your t-shirt size! October 22-24 -- String Invitational at Lee University in Cleveland, TN. We would like to take as many of our high school strings as possible to this intense workshop. MYOCA will pay for the participation in the workshop. The only cost to the students will be transportation and room & board. Please let us know by September 30 if you are interested so we can arrange this trip. Saturday, February 27 -- We've just scheduled a lobby concert before the ASO Masterworks concert that evening. *Don't forget that the fees for the first semester of orchestra were due September 15! We will be collecting these at rehearsal this coming week.* Scholarship Opportunity: "The Alabama Symphony Volunteer Council now has our website up and running: any musically gifted, serious student ages 12 - senior high in the areas of piano, woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion is eligible to enter. Rosalind Rust Chair Person An Easy Way to Help: We have been a designated charity with GoodSearch (as Metropolitan Youth Orchestras of Central Alabama) almost from our inception. Once they added the shopping option, the potential for significant earnings for our organization was there--if only from me. (I shop at Amazon all the time.) However, I found both interfaces inconvenient. The new toolbar really works for me and I will be using it all the time. I encourage you to add it to your browser, choose MYOCA as your charity, and use GoodSearch and GoodShop as a nearly painless way to raise money for MYOCA. Please ask your friends and family to do the same! -------------------------------- ------------------------ Every time you shop online at your favorite stores you could be saving money and earning a donation for MYOCA. Our new toolbar, developed by GoodSearch & GoodShop takes just a few seconds to download. More than 1,300 top stores including Apple, Best Buy, Gap, PetSmart, and Staples are pitching in and will donate a percentage of each sale to our organization. There's no extra cost to you and you may even may even save money as the merchants are providing us thousands of money-saving coupons! The GoodSearch toolbar also includes a search box which is powered by Yahoo! Each time you search the web, about a penny is donated to us! There's no easier way to help MYOCA. Please spread the word!
